Winnie Tan
Winnie, a placement practitioner at Thrive Psychology Clinic, is also a therapist-in-training from The School of Positive Psychology (TSPP).
Winnie is a psychotherapist in-training with a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and a deep appreciation for the mind–body connection. She is currently pursuing Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling from The School of Positive Psychology, where she achieved high distinctions in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, trauma-informed approaches, family and marital counselling, group counselling, and psychotherapy ethics in a multicultural context.
Before training as a therapist, Winnie built a distinguished career in healthcare, public health, and education. She has worked extensively within Singapore’s healthcare system, including roles at the Ministry of Health and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where she was involved in patient safety initiatives, clinical research, and public health risk assessment. This background gives her a strong appreciation of how psychological wellbeing intersects with physical health and systems.
In therapy, Winnie works primarily with adults and adopts a collaborative, compassionate, and structured approach. She believes therapy should be both supportive and practical, helping clients gain insight while also developing tools they can apply in daily life. Her work is informed by CBT and solution-focused approaches, with sensitivity to trauma, relationships, and cultural context. She provides a safe and non-judgemental space where clients can explore their concerns at their own pace.
Winnie has a particular interest in stress management, burnout, life transitions, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and relationship challenges. As a mother of three, including a child on the autism spectrum, she brings lived experience and empathy to conversations around caregiving stress, identity changes, and balancing multiple roles, while maintaining a clear professional boundary in therapeutic work.
Alongside her clinical training, Winnie is an experienced educator and associate lecturer, skilled in explaining complex ideas clearly and thoughtfully. Clients often appreciate her calm presence, analytical clarity, and ability to integrate scientific understanding with emotional insight. She is also a dedicated yoga practitioner and values the importance of self-awareness and the mind–body connection in psychological wellbeing.
Winnie is proficient in English and Mandarin.
