
Val Ong
Val, a placement practitioner at Thrive Psychology Clinic, is also a therapist-in-training from The School of Positive Psychology (TSPP).
Val is a trainee psychotherapist and counsellor with training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Hypnotherapy, and Coaching. She holds a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling and an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology, and is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
Having grown up and built her career locally in Singapore, Val brings a grounded understanding of the cultural and social contexts that shape many of our life experiences. With a background deeply rooted in people-focused work, she offers clients warmth, empathy, and insight into the complexities of human behaviour, motivation, and life transitions.
Her practice is supported by evidence-based therapy while embracing the strengths-based principles of positive psychology, integrating approaches such as CBT, SFBT, and Hypnotherapy. Val’s sessions encourage clients to harness inner strengths like resilience, grit, and mindfulness, helping them navigate challenges, enhance wellbeing, and cultivate meaningful, lasting change. She is passionate about creating a safe and compassionate space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to grow in alignment with their values.
Outside of her clinical work, Val is an avid reader who enjoys travelling and spending quality time with family and friends. She believes that social connection is vital to wellbeing, and values the meaningful relationships that keep her grounded, enriching both her personal and professional life.
