Shaaran Kaur

“And like the sun, we will always rise again.”

Shaaran is a behavioural therapist at Thrive Psychology Clinic.

Shaaran is a heart-led practitioner with over four years of experience walking alongside children and youth aged 8 to 20 who have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, and disrupted attachment. Working in a residential care setting, she has built deep connections with young people navigating complex emotional landscapes, offering safety, stability, and compassionate guidance when they need it most.

As an Associate Psychologist and Behavioural Therapist, Shaaran brings a grounded, child-centric approach that honours each young person's voice and pace. Her work is rooted in empathy, cultural humility, and a belief that even the most hurt parts of us are worthy of care. Whether she's using cognitive-behavioral strategies to reframe thoughts, drawing from motivational interviewing to spark inner motivation, or incorporating play-based techniques to build emotional safety, Shaaran skillfully integrates a range of modalities to meet her clients where they are. Her training spans across Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Schema Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and elements of Play Therapy.

Shaaran’s clinical lens is deeply informed by her background in psychology and her passion for understanding trauma and its impact on development and behavior. She believes that behaviors are often the language of unmet needs—and that behind every outburst, shutdown, or silence, there’s a story waiting to be heard with gentleness and without judgment.

In her sessions, Shaaran creates safe relational spaces where young people can explore their identity, build self-trust, and learn healthier ways to cope with the world around them. She places a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, body autonomy, and healthy boundaries, especially important for children and adolescents learning to rebuild a sense of safety in their own skin.

From messy art tables to quiet corners during crisis, Shaaran meets her clients with calm presence and unwavering belief in their capacity to grow. She is especially drawn to working with youths who struggle with emotional dysregulation, risky behaviors, or a history of relational trauma, often the very children others find “difficult,” but who she sees as deeply resilient and worthy of consistent care.

When she’s not engaged in therapeutic work, Shaaran enjoys music and a good cup of coffee. Her calm, steady nature and playful spirit make her a trusted adult in the lives of the children she supports - one who can hold space for both laughter and tears, anger and healing.
