A child psychologist helps children and teens make sense of their feelings, behaviours, and thoughts. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, learning struggles, trauma, or big life changes like divorce, they offer support through therapy, assessments, and guidance. They also work closely with parents and caregivers, giving you tools to better understand and support your child’s emotional growth and well-being.
Children can benefit from seeing a psychologist at any age, even toddlers. If you're noticing emotional struggles, behaviour challenges, developmental delays, or difficulty adjusting to major changes, it’s a good idea to reach out. Early support can make a world of difference, and there’s no such thing as seeking help "too soon."
Child therapy looks a lot different from adult therapy! Since kids express themselves through play, art, and stories (not just words), therapy sessions are active, creative, and age-appropriate. Therapists often engage parents outside of sessions, so they can provide consistent support at home as they learn to manage big emotions in everyday situations.
Child psychologists work with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression,(https://www.thrivepsychology.com.sg/anxiety-depression) ADHD,(https://www.thrivepsychology.com.sg/inattentiveness-hyperactivity-adhd) autism,(https://www.thrivepsychology.com.sg/autism-spectrum-disorder-asd) learning difficulties, behavioural concerns,(https://www.thrivepsychology.com.sg/behavioural-therapy) bullying, low self-esteem, and family transitions like divorce. No concern is too big or too small — early support can help children build the skills they need to thrive.
The first session is all about getting to know you and your child. We’ll talk about your child’s strengths, challenges, and what brought you to us. You’ll have time to ask questions, and while we’ll suggest a strategic plan based on our expertise, we’ll work together to tailor it to your child’s needs — all in a warm, welcoming environment.
Every child’s journey is different. Some might need typically a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. On average, therapy lasts a few months, with regular check-ins to track progress and adjust as needed. Our focus is always on helping your child move forward at their own pace.
